The certificate in Data Analytics teaches students to develop new analytical methods and tools by integrating the computational, statistical, and engineering techniques that form the heart of big data analytics.

Data science is one of the fastest-growing career paths and demand for deeply-technical expertise continues to increase. A background that integrates multiple disciplines is needed to develop the new methods, tools, and infrastructures to support innovative big data analytics operations in industry, government, and academia.

Training in computation, statistics, or engineering alone is not sufficient — it will require an interdisciplinary combination of all of these skills to solve the problems facing the growing field. This certificate is designed to train technical students with a broader view across these disciplines to support the development of the data analytics field.

The graduate certificate in Data Analytics is offered collaboratively by Virginia Tech’s Departments of Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Statistics.  It is open to students located on both the Blacksburg and National Capital Region campuses.

Faculty and Teaching

Faculty in the Sanghani Center for Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics created cross-listed courses across the departments of statistics, computer science, and electrical and computer engineering, and organized these courses into the graduate certificate in data analytics. Students pursuing the graduate certificate learn from teachers who are not only some of the most foremost researchers in their fields, but who have pioneered many innovations in data analytics.
