Huijuan Shao is a Ph.D. student working on data mining models for smart buildings. Specifically, she uses temporal models to mine time series for energy disaggregation and occupancy prediction. Energy disaggregation is to analyze the electricity usage of each device inside buildings by only monitoring the whole-house meter at entry service. Occupancy prediction aims to estimate whether a home is occupied by tracking individual’s indoor activities, thus helps automate the HVAC ahead of time.
She is also interested in data mining research in public health. She conducts research on how disease spreads over network and find specific group of people as sensors to predict disease outbreak.
